All Things Literacy...
If you're looking for anything (and/or everything) to do with literacy, a great website is www.readwritethink.org It has so many lesson plans that could be relevant across a variety of disciplines. There is even a lesson plan that could be useful in a computers class to educate students as to what is and isn't reliable information on the "world wide web." I browsed through it today, and I will surely return!

That looks like a good site. I saw a lesson about grammar pet peeves that I want to check out more later. Not sure if I'll have time to address that in science...but you never know!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad there is something out there that teachers can use to teach students about what is reliable information on the web. It's amazing how many students believe email rumors and everything else they read online. In fact, I've had many adults send me bogus email warnings and rumors. It's one of my pet peeves. That lesson would be a terrific one to adapt for the science classroom. Thanks for sharing Brandy!
ReplyDeleteThe readwritethink.org site got me to a spot where I stumbled on Edutopia, and there are a lot of interesting things going on there. As much as I have grumbled about having to do this blogging, and as much time as it is taking away from all the fun and joy of my other homework projects, I have to admit that I am learning some stuff. It is always great to share ideas with the rest of the gang, too. So, ok, it is not so bad after all.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandy, for the helpful website to checkout. It is always nice to have good resources at your fingertips! It is interesting how so many students (this includes adults) today do not know how to sort out the good from the bad. I had an interesting conversation with a class about wikipedia.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Laurie, I was suspect about the amount of time this project was going to take and the benefits, but it really as been interesting reading the different blogs. It has also got me doing some research on topics of interest.
Excellent find! I love that site as well!
